Open-Source: Empowering Communities

At synvert, our passion for open-source transcends mere code creation: it’s an integral part of who we are.

We believe in the transformative power of community, collaboration, and the collective drive for innovation. Our journey in the open-source realm is about more than software development—it’s about fostering a community where ideas thrive, developers grow, and technology is accessible to everyone.

A Commitment to Giving Back

Our ethos is deeply rooted in the spirit of contribution, recognizing the vital role of mutual support in the flourishing of the open-source ecosystem. We’re committed to giving back, actively participating in and contributing to events that bring the community together.

Among these, the Cloud Native Lisbon meetups stand out as a beacon of our engagement, where we connect with fellow enthusiasts to share knowledge, insights, and the latest in cloud-native innovations. We recently hosted an enlightening panel titled “Reviving DevOps: Bridging the Divide between Promise and Reality”, in an era where DevOps practices are more crucial than ever, our panel of esteemed speakers delved into the practical challenges and discrepancies often encountered between the theoretical promises of DevOps and its on-ground realities. You can watch the insightful conversation and gain valuable DevOps insights on YouTube.

Building Tools for the Community

Our commitment extends to developing tools that address real-world needs, such as Split, our retrospective tool designed for large teams. Split is more than just a tool; it’s a reflection of our commitment to enhancing team collaboration and efficiency. With features like team creation, boards, sub-boards, and Slack integration, Split is tailored to facilitate seamless company-wide retrospectives.

Cultivating a Vibrant Open-Source Ecosystem

Our engagement with open-source is fundamentally about community. We’re committed to building lasting relationships, sharing knowledge freely, and collaborating on solutions to complex challenges. Through our contributions, events like Cloud Native Lisbon, and projects like Split, we strive to inspire and be inspired, fostering a cycle of innovation that benefits the entire community.

The Geekathon: Celebrating Our Open-Source Ethos

The Geekathon, our premier yearly hackathon event, counting with 3 editions already, was themed “Shape The Future of Development powered by AI tools in 2023”. It epitomizes our dedication to open-source values. More than a competition, it’s a celebration of community-driven innovation, showcasing our collective ambition to advance technology.

Geekathon’s Impact in Numbers
  • Exceptional Engagement: The event boasted an impressive 96% show-up rate.
  • Eligible Enthusiasts: An enthusiastic group of 79 eligible participants came together.
  • Creative Solutions: This gathering of minds led to the creation of 15 innovative projects.
  • Recognition of Excellence: Among these projects, 3 were distinguished and awarded prizes.

Championing Open-Source with the “Paipeliner” Project

Among the standout innovations from Geekathon’23 was Paipeliner, a project that addresses the escalating complexity of CI/CD pipelines in growing software projects. Paipeliner stands as a testament to the potential of open-source collaboration, leveraging the capabilities of LLM and OpenAI’s products to enhance pipeline efficiency, performance, and security.

Understanding the Challenge

As projects scale, CI/CD pipelines often become bogged down with inefficiencies and redundancies, making maintenance and compliance increasingly cumbersome. Paipeliner aims to tackle this by offering comprehensive evaluations and suggestions for improvement across various fronts.

The Vision Behind Paipeliner

Paipeliner is designed to harness the power of LLM, specifically OpenAI’s innovations, to not just analyze individual pipelines but to provide a holistic assessment of an organization’s pipeline ecosystem. The goal is to enhance performance, efficiency, interoperability, and security.

How Paipeliner Works

Paipeliner offers two primary modes of operation: a local CLI for developers to refine their pipelines pre-deployment, and an automated organizational tool that evaluates and suggests enhancements for the entire pipeline network.

Envisioning Success

Success for Paipeliner means demonstrating tangible benefits for projects and organizations while fostering a vibrant community of contributors committed to the tool’s growth and evolution.

The Grant

Our sponsorship of Paipeliner’s project underscores our belief in the importance of supporting emerging technologies and ideas that have the potential to make a meaningful impact. The opportunity for teams to vie for a sponsored project by xgeeks, a 10 thousand euro open-source grant aimed at supporting repositories with the goal of joining the CNCF landscape. By providing financial support, mentorship, and resources, we aim to empower innovators and help them realize their vision for a better future.

Join the Open-Source Movement

Our approach to open-source is not just about writing code; it’s about building a community, driving innovation, and making a positive impact on the world. Events like Geekathon and projects like Paipeliner remind us of the incredible potential of open-source to shape the future of technology.

We remain committed to supporting open-source initiatives and fostering a culture of collaboration and creativity. Together, we can build a better, more open future for all.

Whether you’re a developer, enthusiast, or advocate for innovation and collaboration, don’t miss out on the chance to become part of our community. Check our call for collaborators, here! We can’t wait to meet you 🙌
